This proposal aimed to respond to the dispositions in the competition program, seeking to satisfy the requirements of two moments (Games Mode Plan and Legacy Mode Plan) and the consequent transition phase, with the purpose of implement a long term strategy that would articulate and contribute for those three phases.
The area where the Olympic City is placed presents a huge urban growth and, the
area nearby the Jacarepaguá Lagoon, as a space of transition between land and water, presents its own dynamics to which both human activity and natural life contribute.
Our proposal intended to optimize the large potential this area has, contributing positively to the effective improvement in quality of life, socially, culturally and economically speaking.
Therefore, the urban renewal of this area should be based on a long-term sustainability strategy in its various aspects (environment, society, economy and culture), which would allow the public space and infra-structure optimization, whether they were permanent or temporary, introducing an ecological sense that would minimize the impacts an intervention of this scale involves.
Conceptually, the area is seen as a green mass which, when fissured, allows for the entry of watercourses, resulting in a green structure that will articulate and join the whole urban space. The main structural axes of the project hence appear connected to these two elements,
