This project for an apartment building in Lapa combines the renovation of an existing building with the construction of a new structure to the south, facing Rua dos Remédios.
The access to the building is done through the entrance on Rua das Praças. As one enters the building there is a double height space which connects through the old stairway to the new vertical access nucleus. This nucleus, located in the preexisting building, gives access to all apartments, including the ones in the new wing, through a glass area that houses small circulation hallways. The proposed west façade is made up of large horizontal bays that face the interior of the landscaped block.
The proposed east elevation duplicates the alignment and height of the adjacent buildings minimizing its presence through the adoption of bays in a façade panel pattern. The access to the parking level is done through Rua dos Remédios, through the gate located along the metal panes basement.
In its whole, the structure seeks to stand out from the existing building combining the different aspects of design to enhance it. However, the set is unified through the introduction of a single unit zinc metal roof.
