Vale das Sobreiras is located in Grândola (Alentejo,Portugal) which is characterized by undulating topography and Montado landscape - extensive cork oak forest.
The dimension of the parcel and the natural characteristics of this landscape determine a controlled intervention which aims to highlight the local features ensuring the spirit of the place preservation. The intervention focuses on points and lines: Points that comprises sitting/play areas and connections between there (lines).
The Olival structure (Olive Tree Grove), pre-existence of the parcel, was improved by the implementation of a “grid” - pathways and tree pits - which illustrates the original rule that determined the planting of these elements, now sculptural ones. The introduction of Orchard determined a yard of orange trees (Citrus sinensis), a species that accompanies the distribution of cork oak forests in Portuguese territory. The Eira (Threshing floor) as the Orchard, was introduced as a memory of the singular elements of Alentejo landscape.
