The facility projected for Quinta da Correeira, a residential area undergoing expansion, centralises the functions of a nursery and primary school. Even though they share the same building, there is a need for each facility to have its autonomous space.
The section for children aged three to six is based in the lowest part of the terrain, with a direct connection to the road to the east. On the upper part of the plot, to the west, we have primary school classrooms. In the middle, the emptiness created by a double ceiling height, incorporates the spaces used collectively thereby creating a connection between them.
The building was studied in order to eliminate visual obstacles, aimed at the safety of the children and the versatility of the spaces, which are important for exceptional situations, thereby allowing the increasing of areas such as the canteen and the multi-purpose room.
On the exterior, the land is structured as a continuous playground around the school. This object is seen from the outside as a composition of three elements which are joined together by a slab, which doubles to fit and contain everything.
