The Barreiro Terminal is the point where the railway line, bus network and river routes meet. The train station on the north side communicates via a covered passage with the west boarding terminal and, between these, there is a parking area which stretches out to the south, receiving car and bus traffic.
The river station building is composed of a succession of units with floors of stones laid out in lines and separated, alternating fullness and emptiness of the same size. The boxes contain ticket sales desks, commercial and bathroom facilities while the space between them allows for the flow of large crowds of people heading towards the boarding areas. The waiting area occupies the entire area fronting the river and distributes the passengers to the docked boats.
The metallic roof is structured in two independent planes which, in terms of space, correspond to the two operating areas. This division associated to a superstructure with labels and with a direct foundation was the solution found for the non-consolidated landfill situation.
The visual result is a silver "wing" which is resting on the river bank.
